Publicly unhappy since 1782.

The myth of a mask

According to local legend, this expressive mask was carved by the Admiralty sculptor Johan Törnström at Karlskrona shipyard. Frustrated over salary negotiations with the shipyard director Fredrik Henrik af Chapman, Törnström is said to have carved this figure above the entrance to his workshop, so that af Chapman would be forced to see it every day. A silent but unequivocal message.
